Bali’s culture is as old as four thousand years and the tradition and culture is influenced from the European countries, China and India. People of Bali still practice some very old traditions. The Hinduism practiced in Bali is as same as the Indian Hinduism. Balinese do no distinguish culture and religion. Their culture is their religion and they do not do anything against it. The traditions in Bali are a bit different than the Indian Hindus while there are people who practice the Indian Hinduism.
When visiting temples they carry a basket of flowers and rice known as Canang Sari that is offered to god up to three times a day. People of Bali celebrate their new year in March and the event is known as Nyepi. Residents of Bali are not allowed to go anywhere out that day and participate in any kind of activity. The day is reserved for pondering over the accomplishments in life during the previous year. Even the domestic and international flights are cancelled on Nypei and everyone is supposed to spend the entire day mediating.
Feng shui is the spirit of seeking harmony. Homes are built with adult bedrooms in the north section of the home, children’s bedroom in the west of the home, kitchen is built in the south of the house, the home temple is located in the northeast of the house and all the ceremonies are celebrated in the center of the house.
According to the traditions and cultures of Bali, marriage can take place only once in a person’s lifetime. Their culture thrusts upon them to have four children and each child should be named according to the Balinese naming system. Just as the Indian Hindus there is an event in which the human body is cleansed with all the negative souls. This event is known as Banya Pinaruh and is celebrated by cleaning the body from all evils.
Bali is usually known for its colorful and noisy ceremonies. People visit Bali not only because it is a beautiful but also to witness their traditions and cultures which are very popular.
